I love strawberries and can never get enough.
Growing strawberry plants is not unusual, but there are many different techniques for growing them that some people may have not thought about before. There are so many different ways of growing these delicious red berries, you are bound to find a way that suits your needs!
Currently we have our strawberries growing in raised beds as it seems to give us strawberries about 2 weeks earlier. So this year I am adding a second strawberry bed, but this time I am just putting them right in our garden so that we can see if they produce at the same time as our raised bed strawberries.
The most important thing is to consider what type of seeds to use. One popular type is the everbearing strawberry plant, as these tend to yield a crop more than once. Growing them indoors means you’ll even be able to manipulate the seasons so your plant may flower more often. Strawberries only require two things to grow well, six hours of sunlight or more, and plenty of water. When you remember a few tips for growing strawberries the rest is pretty easy from there!
One of the most popular methods is what is known as container gardening. With container gardening, it is very easy to grow your plants in a well lighted room indoors or even on your patio outside. You can use nearly anything as a container, some people even try growing strawberries in tires, through traditional pots work just as well.
Topsy Turvy containers are another popular choice amongst beginner gardeners. Some people will make their own using plastic bottles from around the house, or you can often find them at any gardening outlet shop. With this method of growing, the plants are suspended in the air upside down. Another type of gardening that is slightly unusual is called lasagna garden. This kind of gardening makes it so you do not have the need for digging up the dirt or fertiling it, since a layered compost is used instead. Instead, you use layers of fertilizer, cardboard, and compost to make your dirt. Although it may be a little difficult to understand at first, it is actually quite simple and quickly helps you also save a lot of hard work.
With so many great ideas, growing strawberries with your family is sure to be a fun time for everyone. When you give your plants the proper type of care, you just might be surprised what they can use for growing in.
