flowering-irisOver the past three years we have seen the different bulbs poke through the soil and turn into beautiful flowers and colours. Each year we actually find more we didn’t know were here because they have been mowed over.

The Iris showing on the right is a good example. They were actually in the lawn close to the fence but it was mowed when we bought the place and then we continued to mow it.

This year we didn’t mow that area because we had a little work to do around that area and that’s when the Iris had a chance to get above ground.

tulipsNow we want to move them to a location that will display them without so much hiding them and they won’t be in our lawn.

The first time we decided to move them we thought we better wait until fall but at that time we couldn’t tell where they were or what colour they were so we left it for another year.

I have read a little about moving bulbs and if we do it now, while we still know the locations and colours, we most likely won’t see flowers next year, but as long as they don’t die, well we can live with that.

So, over the next few weeks we will be taking up the iris and tulips and relocate them.

I was on a nice little page about help with your Iris and it was helpful so here is a link for more questions and answers about the Iris.
