Jenny And I Had Our First Home Grown Strawberry
The last couple of times Jenny came home with strawberries they were huge but they lacked in flavour. I wasn’t impressed and suggested that we buy smaller strawberries as they likely have a whole lot more flavour.
Last year we planted a strawberry plant into a container. The container was about 2 1/2 feet across and the same in depth but the strawberry plant out grew the container in just a few weeks. So, I decided it would do better in one of our boxed in raised beds.
This year it has grown to take over more than 4 feet of the box and by the end of the season I am sure it will fill the entire box. I won’t be planting tomatoes there next year.
We noticed that we had dozens of little strawberries on the way and could hardly wait.
I know my son pretty well when it comes to his taste buds so I thought it wise to warn him to stay away from our little strawberry patch. It was cute when he was 3 but now it’s my turn to have the first taste.
Last night I was looking at, well admiring our strawberries. They are getting so ripe I just had to take one and share it with Jenny. I would have shared it with Steve as well but he wasn’t home from work at that time.
I didn’t think we would have fresh home grown strawberries here in New Brunswick Canada for another few weeks. What a great surprise.
It had to taste better than the huge store bought ones or I wasn’t growing them again.
Well it was 100 times better tasting and the taste just got better the longer I kept it in my mouth. It almost brought me to tears.
I took this picture this morning but forgot to take one just before eating it. Even though it looks great it was even better by the evening.
